Book Launch – Re-Dreaming; Conversing; and Business God’s Way by Paul Nyamuda
March 09, 2017
Hosted by: Skoobs Theatre of Books
Paul Nyamuda studied Organisational Psychology at Rhodes University in the ‘90’s. This gave him a strong foundation in his chosen fields of leadership and social development. His goal has been to help unlock greatness in organisations, teams and individuals. He is achieving this through constant research, teaching, coaching and now writing. He is supported in these endeavours by his wife Tracey and they have 3 children.
He stated that his writing has evolved from requests by people who have heard him speak and his own belief that more scientific, yet accessible resources are necessary. He believes that he is a better speaker than a writer and yet has written 23 books to date. His books are self-published but he decided it was time to get them into the mainstream bookstores (and what better place than Skoobs!) with the help of Helen Hoylake from Helco Promotions.
Our evening was rounded out by Janine Price who welcomed those present with some light piano music and ended the evening with a stunning rendition of ‘Rain’ from her new album ‘Make It Loud’ which is available on iTunes.
Here are some of the highlights from our conversation:
Q: What aspects of studying at Rhodes University did you enjoy?
A: The university had a strong culture of reading and an acceptance of creative answers!
Q: What aspects were problematic for you?
A: I discovered that the more I learned, the more there was to learn!
Q: Why write the books when you are lecturing and speaking?
A: A book has a longevity from which generations can benefit. Reading helps a person to internalize the knowledge in a way listening does not.
Q: Apart from the obvious (these books demonstrate your passion for the subjects), why these books in particular?
A: I have a strong belief in God and I wanted to show that God is present in everything we do. Business is no different and so I have written about how business ties in with what God has to say. There is no division between the sacred and the secular and there is no reason to leave God out.
Q: How have you managed to achieve so much – wife, children, lecturing, talking, travelling and 23 books?
A: I always say that to achieve your goals you need ‘the other stuff’- being smart or intelligent is not enough. The ‘other stuff’ includes emotional intelligence, assertiveness, goal orientation, grit and most especially, resilience. Resilience is the ability to bounce back , to block the negative and pursue your goals. Resilience is what has helped me achieve what I have so far. And the soccer reference……keep dribbling the ball and you will score a goal! There has also been a lot of encouragement and participation from the extended family and friends.
Q: What do your children think of this writing stuff?
A: They are all excited – especially my oldest (10 years old) who is a budding business man. He wants to know when I will be making money from all this work!
Overall, a lovely evening and a wonderful introduction to a man who was generous with his time and forthright in his answers.
