Abel Yeager, an ex-marine, ex-truck driver is settling into a new life with partner Charlie, her son David and a German Shepherd pup called Rascals. The tranquility of this new life is disturbed by a call for help from Yeager’s friend, Victor. A mission orphanage in Mexico is in dire need of supplies after several earthquakes have disrupted the landscape, the drug lords have claimed new territories, and Yeager’s truck driving skills are desperately needed. This should be a quick diversion from his home renovation duties, shouldn’t it?
I am so happy that I discovered this author. His writing style makes an easy listen, with a plot and action that kept me wanting to see how it all worked out! The characters are well-developed and each has their own distinctive attributes. Victor brings some light relief with his humorous personality, Smitty some ‘good-old Texan’, Charlie a little romance – I could just keep going! Again, the plot is quite complex and is unravelled steadily throughout the story. This time we experience some sadness – but no one lives forever, right?
Again, J Scott Bennett has done a wonderful narration. A good narrator always makes the characters more real, and Mr Bennett certainly does this for me in this story. The carry-over of the voices is superb and again, I could relate to the characters and places as described. This book is well-suited to the audio format and no editing errors were noted.
